You never said you were proud.
Just shook your head in disappointment,
When I told you I wanted to become a Marine.
No hug good-bye, no shake of the hand.
Just stood there like stone, emotionless.
I wrote letters every day, some were shipped-
None were forgotten.
You never sent a reply, I didn't know if you took the time.
My weapon of war became my companion,
The chaos of battle became my escape.
From the constant torture of your neglect.
I gave my last breath for my brother,
The bullet to the chest seeped out this crimson.
The pain felt like relief to the aching in my heart.
My mind slowly began to unwind, relaxed in freedom.
Of the sacrifice of my life, one final chance to make
But in these long seconds left I wished you'd once said-
'I love you son, you always made me proud."
I died in peace; I died in grief.
I died for you.
