The smoke from the cigarette blew into the face of the young woman, burning her nose  and flaring her eyes. She leaned away as she coughed. Rising from her knees she lifted her head to look into the cold eyes of her husband, wiping the blood from her cheek. "Don't you under mind me again, next time I won't be so merciful." He growled, he sucked a long drag of the cigarette once more and blew the smoke into his wife's face again. "Get out of my sight slut!" Without a word she turned around and disappeared out of the house, the burning in her cheek a constant reminder of the pain and hatred she felt towards the heartless man. The dirt driveway winded around to the road, which she walked down for five minutes before she turned down another street, soon reaching a sidewalk that led her to a white front door. Her blood already crusted over by the cool night wind. After a few knocks the door swung open to reveal the form of a tall man, his eyes chocolate, his hair sandy. At the sight of the dried blood his eyes widened with horror. "Jess what happened? Did he do this to you?" Gently he took her into his arms and led her inside the house. "Like always." She whispered against his chest, her thin arms gripping tightly around him. "I'm sick of it… I ca…" Her words trailed off as his lips brushed against hers. "I won't let him hurt you ever again Jess, I'll keep you safe." He promised as he caressed the back of her head with his hand, tucking strains of her hair behind her ear. "Sit down I'll be right back." He released her and vanished into the kitchen for a few minutes. When he returned he had a wet washcloth and a first aid kit.  Gingerly he dabbed the wet cloth against the blood until it was all cleared up, added a bit of medicine then covered it with a band-aid. "All done." Jess leaned forward until their lips locked. His arms came around her as he pinned her against the couch, eyes locking in a stare of passion and love. "I'll keep you safe." He smiled down at her as their bodies entwined. Clothes discarded, limbs becoming tangled. Naked and breathless he rolled to the side to take her into his arms once again, her head resting snuggly against his strong chest. "Why didn't I marry you when I had the chance?" She muttered softly, her eyes glazed over with love and pleasure. He stroked her hair gently. "Because then we wouldn't be in a love affair." He chuckled, kissing her cheek affectionately. "We got each other now and I won't ever let you go, I'll kill him before I let him have you back." He vowed. She closed her eyes, a smile curving along her lips.

I wrote this last night, not much thought went into it.

As said in the other piece, I love when you step outside your comfort zone :) This is lovely and well written - on first pass the only thing that I stumbled over slightly was your sentence fragments.

This bids the question... is the affair justified? I see more coming from this besides just the poem ;)
